A Brief History

Enjoying margaritas at Santa Fe has been an Upper West tradition for almost 40 years. We tend to agree with New York Magazine that we have “New York’s best frozen margarita!”

Our drinks will get you in the door, and the food will keep you coming back for more! We serve contemporary Southwestern and Mexican cuisine, including our innovative weekly specials by Executive Chef José Gonzalez and the popular Santa Fe favorites that first put us on the map. We use only the freshest ingredients and there is something for everyone on our menu.

Santa Fe is a true neighborhood restaurant; family-owned and family-run. Bring a date or the whole family. We want our guests to feel like Santa Fe is their home away from home.

ABOUT OUR CHEF

José Gonzáles has been a well-noted chef for over 20 years. Some of his achievements include being invited to judge talented new pastry chefs at the French Culinary Institute and participating as a sous chef several times at the James Beard Foundation. José's New York experience encompasses long tenures at The Rocking Horse, Sueños, The Wyndham Hotel, La Guardia, and Los Dados. His titles have included Pastry Chef and Executive Chef.

Chef González describes his food as "authentic contemporary Mexican cuisine." The inspiration for many of his dishes comes from his past. He was raised in Atlixco, Mexico, surrounded by family with a variety of culinary talents. His aunt is a chef and teacher at a renowned culinary school in Mexico. His mother-in-law specialized in pre-hispanic Mexican cuisine.

José brings the richness of his past, and a savory depth to the truly authentic fare he creates for Sante Fe. He has added many new items to our in-house menu while keeping old favorites fresh and vibrant. José produces a weekly selection of special in-house dishes that should not be missed.
